Snake Magic
Christians cmon , it’s the 21st century, are you seriously going to swallow what’s written in the Bible?

… as literal fact? I can completely see how someone living 500 years ago would believe in talking snakes, magic sky fairies etc. But still?

The Bible may contain history, but it is not a history, and not intended to be. It also has love stories, songs, advice, letters, laws, apocalypses, genealogies, and, and….

One of the genres is myth, which in theological terms is not a fairy story, but a story that tells truth, even if it is not true in and of itself. Sort of like how parables work. E.g., there was no actual Good Samaritan, but it is an excellent teaching story that contains truth. Myth is something like that, albeit more detailed. E.g., the Genesis stories tell us that we are Created by God, the nature of good and evil, our relationship with God, our role as stewards of the Earth, and so on. The details are not even all that important, but the message is.

So, while the are literal facts in the Bible, hundreds or thousands of them, not everything is supposed to be taken as literal fact. People that do get all messed up. However, people that reject everything because of a misunderstanding of the genres get just as messed up.

It would be like rejecting a math textbook because Johnny (with two apples) and Sally (with three apples) did not actually exists. 2+3 does exist, but ignoring that because of the made-up people is simply silly.
