Regardless of how much I thought I knew what I was doing, because I knew how to live in a world open …….. Certainly a lot to learn.
When you grow up in a safe environment, like the Amish, you have much to learn regardless of age, when you leave. Well of course, that my childhood is to prepare themselves to live in the outside world away, But I purposely did not know how to survive in the world of open water.
Here are just a few hard lessons I learned survival:
Completely naive
No Money Smarts at all (I do not know how to manage money wisely)
Too trusting people
I do not want me
Can you imagine your child going into the world with what I have above that?
This gives me chills to think about their own children leave school without any knowledge, which are necessary for survival.
Of course, I am all for it, so that children get the knowledge and experience need.
But I also realized how much the simple life (open life) that I still use Today I know that I'm alive "to the best of both cultures. You will hear more about it in the coming months, but allow me give an example.
Noise: At home we have very little background. Other than the voice of the people was very low noise. Check out my comparison chart below:
Not Amish vs Amish
Radio vs sun
TV vs sun
excellent (city or highway) vs no (we lived in the country)
Children noisy toys vs not (we did not toys, the noise)
Bicycle or scooter vs no (we had a small red car)
Kitchen Appliances vs no (no electricity)
Powertools vs sun
sprinklers in the yard new plants, other than we did not water the lawn
Milking Machines Yes vs gas engine to cool milk was noisy hours of hard work
Water Pump vs sun
This is a partial list, some things I can not think anymore.
There are many times when I pay special attention to keep background noise to a minimum. Honestly I appreciate quiet most of the time. You should try it sometime. I really think my brain is active when all is calm.
As I said earlier, you will hear much more about how much can live "the best of two cultures" in the coming months so stay tuned.
